The National diploma in Engineering is a full time two year course. The course is based around all areas of engineering, with view to specialise in either mechanical or electrical engineering in the second year of the course. The course is based at Darlington College of technology and runs between the hours of 9.00 am till 4.30 pm.
What Qualifications Can I get?
If you are accepted on to the course you will gain experience in a lot of practical areas of enginerring. The time which you spend in the workshops leads towards an NVQ level 2 in engineering along with the BTEC National Diploma.Onh the course you will complete tasks in Electrical workshop, Mechanical workshop and the Fabrication and Welding workshop. The theoretical area of the course leads to the BTEC which is the equivalent of 2 A-levels. With the NVQ included this is the equivalent of 3 A-levels.
Where Can I go with these Qualifications?
With the national diploma you could either go to university or go into work. Quite a lot of companies would prefer the diploma rather than A-levels, because with the diploma you learn practical skills as well as learning theory sides to engineering. Most universities accept you onto the engineering degrees if you have a diploma. The higher the qualification you get the better university you will go to.
